The Language of Six Strings

by Lungta N, Class 11

What is music? It only means something to the people who are truly listening! Music is mostly considered an art form for entertainment. But when I think about music, it is not a simple answer for me.

Music is my medium of expression and it is more than something that I simply use to entertain others. Often people express themselves with words and actions.  For me, I do that with music. I feel like music is very similar to the color white. which is composed of infinite colors but can mix with any color and become something beautiful. In a similar way, I feel that music has infinite meanings, but each listener can have a different interpretation and a different meaning.

I have found that music can reach people’s hearts even when they are feeling terrible. It can melt the coldest of hearts. My favorite instrument is the guitar. I feel like the strings of the guitar are like the letters of the alphabet, which I can use to create my language. I have often heard that God is everywhere, but I feel that God is everywhere in the form of music – in nature, in the air, in the remotest corners of the planet.

I am learning to play the guitar right now and hope that my music will be able to heal someone’s pain someday; that it can give them hope to others just like many people’s music has given me hope. The world is a much better and brighter place when music is in everyone’s soul.
