Tsewang
Tsewang is in need of sponsors!
Tsewang is currently studying at University majoring in physics with a dual degree in science and education. She wishes to return to the community to teach physics to her younger Jhamtse brothers and sisters. She likes to write poems and stories. She likes to play football and volleyball.
After the quarantine period, Tsewang and all the graduates divided their time mindfully in different activities wherever the Community required support. They gave the kitchen staff a much needed break and took over all breakfast responsibilities. After breakfast, Tsewang and Namgey took responsibility to teach science and math to classes 5 and 6 as due to the lockdown the newly hired teachers were unable to reach campus and the existing teachers were covering for them by teaching additional classes.
They continue teaching their young fellows, helping young children who arrived to the community last year with their chores/responsibilities, teaching them after dinner and sometimes also help in construction whenever required. Their presence has supported the amala’s (housemother) a lot and have made every adult member of the Community a sense of relief in this situation and proud of the adults they are becoming. The following is from a recent interview:
What does Jhamtse mean to you?
Truly, Jhamtse means a lot for me because of which today I am standing here in front of the world and got a wonderful chance to learn so many things and human values in these 12 years. Today, I am getting a different kind of opportunity to make my life better and bright which I think many people do not get such beautiful chances in their entire life. I often feel that I am the luckiest girl in the world. I look back in my life I think my mom had left me alone in this world, a child without mom by saying that you will get a wonderful family like Jhamtse in your life who will stand for you and always look after your happiness and goodness. A family who will care a lot about you and support you in every way. A child like me will always pray to get a family-like Jhamtse Gatsal.
Why do you want to become a teacher?
I want to become a teacher because of some major reasons. My first reason is that I love teaching and love to share all my learning and experience whatever I have. The second reason, 12 years of staying in Jhamtse Gatsal I have realized that getting a permanent and good teacher is the biggest challenge of our community, so I thought if I become a teacher then I can help my community to overcome the problem of not getting a good teacher. In my opinion, a person who is willing to share his/her learning and knowledge with others without a single complaint or problem is real love towards others and I think it is another way to show compassion. Therefore, I strongly believe that I can practice love and compassion by being a teacher and also teach my students how to love other and practice compassion in their life.
