Brush ‘Em Every Day

The younger children at dental camp

Earlier this month, Dr. Yangchin Drema and Dr. Pem Chotton from Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, volunteered to conduct an extensive 2-day Dental Camp. Lobsang D., one of our school graduates and gap year learner, played a vital role in helping as a nurse at the Clinic. The clinic inspired Lobsang to want to learn more about dentistry.

Dr. Drema and Dr. Chotton examined, diagnosed, and advised treatment for 105 children from K-12 and our gap year learners. Some of the tasks performed included oral prophylaxis (preventative treatment) as well as extraction of the firm or mobile teeth for children who needed it.

Both the doctors also conducted interactive and engaging awareness sessions in three groups—Primary, Middle, and High School—along with the Housemothers (Amalas) to educate children about the importance of good oral hygiene, correct usage of dental floss, proper technique of brushing, preventive maintenance of the mouth, teeth, and gums, and dietary choices for optimum dental health.

We truly appreciate the time, effort, and enthusiasm that Dr. Drema and Dr. Chotton brought to the children’s dental care experience. It’s only thanks to supporters like them within the region, nation, and around the world that we can provide the best care possible to our children. A deep bow of gratitude to Dr. Drema and Dr. Chotton and also to Dr. Frank Rapanich, our dental adviser in the US, for making time to guide Dr. Drema in making this visit a success.
