Vasudha Wanchoo
Vasudha actively started living at Jhamtse Gatsal in 2011, although she was involved in the work as a volunteer with the US-based supporting organization, Jhamtse International, before its inception. After visiting Jhamtse Gatsal Community for three months, she fell in love with the work that is being done in shaping future kind-hearted and thinking leaders. She is now the Managing Director of Jhamtse Gatsal in India.
Vasu recently said: “What motivates me to happily give my all to the work, is seeing the children at Jhamtse Gatsal begin to dream and feel confident to fulfil their dreams. Our children are not passive charitable beneficiaries; rather they are active participants in the growth and development of this Community who are capable of achieving any goal that they set for themselves.
I love our life in the mountains where I enjoy going on hikes and on overnight camping trips with my friends. Being single, I have the ability to shift gears easily in life and be open to every adventure that life may have in store for me. Having said that, I don’t see myself away from my children and my Community any time in the foreseeable future.”
My responsibilities run the spectrum from:
• creating and nurturing a culture of compassionate and service-oriented leadership.
• overseeing the day-to-day activities, management and performance of the Community from a supportive rather than repressive lens.
• collaborating with the Founder and Director as well as community members to develop and deliver the Community’s strategic and annual goals in the most effective and efficient manner.
• liaising within and outside the Community to manage and fulfill the established goals.
• hiring and mentoring all staff members in their community and job-specific roles so that our motivation and actions are in alignment with the Community's vision and mission.
• building relations with educational, scientific and technical institutions within India and across the world to create a network of like-minded and like-hearted partners.
• representing the Community among stakeholders as well as public and private partners.
• collaborating with all departments to create, monitor and track budgets and expenses.
• reporting to national and international supporting organizations on progress against strategic and annual goals on a regular basis.
• managing resources prudently to enable their efficient and effective use.
• developing and implement a compassionate and inclusive risk management plan.
