Tough though this last year has been for our human community, I want to take a moment to connect with you and convey our gratitude for being a part of our journey. We have been thinking about you and your wellbeing throughout this pandemic. As we enter our 16th year in 2021, we thank you for being a part of our lives!
You may have been with us from the beginning when this Garden of Love and Compassion was just a dream, or you may have joined us along the way because the vision and mission of Jhamtse Gatsal resonated with you. Whatever may be the reasons that brought us together, WE CHERISH YOU! You have made us more robust, and you make everyday achievements possible at Jhamtse Gatsal.

The Importance of Compassion
By Lobsang Phuntsok la

At Jhamtse Gatsal, the “muscle” of compassion is practiced and strengthened through everyday routines, meditation, skills, and intentional practices.
It’s a way of life and something to learn and practice. There will always be problems that rules and policy can’t prevent from occurring. You need to teach love, compassion, and kindness as a skill - this is challenging. When you listen, when you help and understand others, you achieve a deeper level of skill. When you help someone to solve the problem, that’s another level of love and compassion.
Some say to me, ‘Lobsang, you have great listening skills.’ I believe when someone listens, our suffering eases, our pain goes down. First, we need to teach to listen from the heart and teach not just to listen from the mind to respond, but to listen from the heart to understand pain. When we understand from the heart, we can act from the heart.

The Jhamtse Football Club
by Coach Tenzin Dondul
|
|
The Jhamtse Football Club (JFC) is a manifestation of the three pillars of Jhamtse Gatsal: Intelligent Mind (learning new skills, strategies, and tactics), Kind Heart (teamwork, selflessness, and leadership), Healthy Body (physical exercise and growth beyond perceived limitations).
In the words of Coach Tenzin Dondul:
"The football program has given students a chance to deeply care about something and work hard to maintain it and see it grow. Football has become their reason to also try harder in other areas of their lives such as academics, which was a challenge for many of them. They want to be better at whatever they do due to the same attitude being inculcated in them for football. The program has proved to be more than just a game. For the students, it has become a reason to be a better version of themselves."
In this article, Coach Tenzin shares the inspiring story of the JFC. Please note: The pictures and videos shared in this article are from 2019 - before the pandemic.

Recent Jhamtse Gatsal graduate Dorjee shares how the Jhamtse Futbol Club and Coach Tenzin changed his life:
"Wherever we go to play football, we carry the name of JFC with us. I have learned a lot from JFC and Coach Tenzin. Football has really changed my life. For me, JFC is not only a platform where we get to learn how to play, but JFC is also a platform where we get to learn the true meaning of sportsmanship." – Dorjee W.
