What does gratitude mean to us?

Dear Friend,

Greetings from Jhamtse Gatsal Children's Community! As we approach the holiday season, we express our gratitude for your kindness and generosity, which enable the Garden of Love and Compassion to flourish in the hearts and minds of our children and staff. In Gen Lobsang Phuntsok la words, Jhamtse Gatsal is not just a place; it is a feeling we carry inside us wherever we may be. Every day at Jhamtse Gatsal begins with a simple meditation on gratitude. It fosters in our children and adults a deep-seated responsibility to live a life of service in whatever we may do to make our world a kinder, gentler, and more accepting place for all.

Two of our middle school children share their written and artistic manifestations of gratitude below. Their words and art are an expression of our gratitude for your continued support of Jhamtse Gatsal. I join them in sharing our immense gratitude to our donors and supporters who have already contributed towards our Annual Appeal

THANK YOU for believing in us and for always showing up to support our needs! We hope you know the difference you make in our lives daily and that our love and appreciation of you go far beyond your abilities to contribute. We are humbled to have such a loving and growing global Jhamtse family.

Please be safe and well. We hold you in our thoughts and prayers.

With gratitude and appreciation,

Vasudha Wanchoo

What Gratitude Means To Me

by Tenzin D., Grade 8

Gratitude in simple words means thankfulness. It is an unlimited and ultimate source of happiness. Living without gratitude is like lacking an important source of joy in our lives. It is a basic human feeling. We can be thankful for simple things, like the fact that we are breathing now or that we can open our eyes to see a bright, new day.

Gratitude is also a simple act of kindness towards others. Sometimes a thank you can make someone's day. For example, genuinely thank a worker for their handiwork or a server when they bring you their food and just watch their expression change. My guess is that they will be as happy as though someone gave them a hundred gold coins. So, let's just smile for goodness' sake, and let's be grateful for what we have!

Gratitude For Nature

Art by Abhijit S., Grade 8

Abhijit says: "In this drawing, the boy is grateful for the natural gifts from Mother Earth. The bird shows that it can fly anywhere without boundaries spreading love and compassion around the world. We are happy and grateful to live surrounded by nature."

Giving Tuesday is December 30th.

Your donation today will be matched by three generous donors.
